Custom Luminaire for
Carrara Marble
Headquarters in Northern Italy
Carrara marble — the world-renowned white stone from Tuscany. For the company headquarters we designed a bespoke luminaire that reveals the material in an entirely new light.
As an internal study we set ourselves the task of designing a bespoke luminaire for the headquarters of a Carrara marble company. The building's interior is defined by a consistent use of the elegant white stone, complemented by a curated selection of Italian designer furniture. The luminaire was to enhance this environment and celebrate the material at its core.
Our approach was to create a unique luminaire design that integrates, celebrates, and
reveals new qualities of the marble. When worked to the right thickness, marble becomes
translucent — backlit, it produces a fascinating sculpture reminiscent of a warm,
glowing full moon.
To further emphasise the stone we introduced polished brass as a contrasting material layer.
The hollow sphere is extended by brass discs top and bottom, and a delicate chain suspension
— a harmonious, refined composition that lets the material speak.
